OBS Enhanced Multitrack Video

When you stream to Millicast, we use passthrough mode unless you use our Real-time Cloud Transcoder Feature. This means that unless you pass multiple bitrates and qualities from the encoder, uses will only get a single bitrate.

Now we support RTMP Enhanced with Multi-track Video Support. You can send multiple video qualities directly from your broadcasting software (like OBS Studio or XSplit Broadcaster). This ensures your viewers always have different quality options to choose from, improving their watching experience.

Enhanced broadcasting includes support for multiple client-side encodes (similar to Real-time Cloud Transcoder) and automatic stream configuration.

MultiTrack Video with OBS

Multitrack video in OBS support creating multiple "renditions" or qualities that OBS sends to Millicast so that the end-viewer can choose which quality to watch or let it happen automatically. This is called Adaptive Bitrate (ABR).

Quality Selection in the Hosted Player

To use this feature, you will need OBS version 30.2 at a minimum. Then, enable Enhanced Broadcasting within the broadcast software settings.

Automatic Stream Configuration

Understanding complicated video settings to achieve the highest video quality can be time consuming and frustrating. By sending information about your setup to Dolby Millicast, automatic stream configuration removes the need for offline trial and error to find the correct settings. A server-side algorithm then returns the best possible configuration for broadcast software that optimizes the viewer experience given constraints in your setup.
